Prempro
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Prempro is a brand name prescription drug used in hormone replacement therapy. On July 9, 2002, the National Institutes of Health stopped a major study to evaluate the risks and benefits of Prempro hormone replacement therapy. According to NIH officials, the 16,600-patient therapy was terminated because the risks of taking Prempro outweighed its benefits.
NIH reported that study participants were found to have an increased risk of invasive breast cancer compared to women taking a placebo. Increases in coronary heart disease, stroke and pulmonary embolism were also found.
Patients who ingested Prempro and suffered serious side effects may be eligible to file an individual lawsuit against the manufacturer Wyeth. If you or someone you know has taken Prempro and suffered an adverse effect from this drug, call us immediately to discuss your legal rights.
