If you plan on attending this year, please RSVP by September 10, 2008 It’s hard to believe, but this year marks our 10th annual picnic exclusively for law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders. The 10th Annual Law Enforcement & Fire Safety Appreciation Day Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the National Corrections & Law Enforcement Training & Technology Center (NCLETTC), also known as “The Moundsville Center.” At 12:45 p.m., we will hold an opening ceremony consisting of a brief welcome from Jon Turak of Gold, Khourey & Turak, and the playing of our National Anthem. Following the opening ceremony, the food lines will officially open and the party will begin. Last year nearly 600 law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, and their families representing more than 40 departments attended the picnic and we expect another large turnout this year. View this year’s flyer. The picnic is free, courtesy of the law firm of Gold, Khourey & Turak. Once again, all law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders will receive a free t-shirt commemorating this year’s picnic. This year’s design will have a special 10th Anniversary logo on the front left-chest and on the back we will list the departments that have attended our picnic since 1999. Be sure to sign-in at the welcome table to receive your shirt. Thanks to Trevor Goode, a member of the Moundsville VFD and Moundsville Police Department for assisting with the theme of this year’s shirt. Sizes and quantities are limited, so arrive early. A few new activities this year include a cornhole tournament and a pizza eating contest. Special thanks to Phillip Chaddock for making the cornhole boards, and to Tony DeFelice, owner of DeFelice Brothers Pizza in Moundsville for donating the pizza and prize for this year’s contest. For additional information on the events, please click: Cornhole Tournament or Pizza Eating Contest. A picnic is not a picnic without food and entertainment, and this year we have some of the best in the Valley. Johnny O from Kool 105.5 FM will DJ the event and provide entertainment throughout the day, while Chef James from Cafe Burress will provide mouth-watering food straight from the grill all afternoon. View this year’s menu. The kids will enjoy “Kool Kat,” the mascot from Kool 105.5 Classic Hits, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m, and back by popular demand are the “Just For Fun” dancers who will perform at 3:00 p.m.. Other activities include the popular Firearms Competition and Speed Pitch, and kids will be busy all day running back and forth between making items at the craft station and enjoying the inflatables. Thanks to Don Meredith, at True Value on Washington Avenue, and Jay Knapp for helping secure items for the event. A big screen TV will be available so that guests can keep up with all the action in college football. If you plan on attending the picnic, please R.S.V.P. by September 10, 2008 so we can plan accordingly. You can do so by signing the sign-up sheet at your local department, by completing the on-line form, or by calling our office at (304) 845-9750.
