Christmas Tree Lighting Highlighted
By Visit From Santa

Slideshow

Although the weather outside was frightful, the 5th Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting at the law firm of Gold, Khourey & Turak in Moundsville drew nearly 100 visitors on Wednesday evening. The ceremony was highlighted with a visit from Santa Claus.

With sirens sounding and lights all a glow, the Moundsville City Fire Department escorted Santa Claus down Tomlinson Avenue to the law office where Santa was greeted by a group of anxious children waiting in the snow and cold. After a few tugs of Santa’s beard and a couple shakes of his jingle bells, Santa lead the children inside where hot chocolate, cider, and cookies awaited the guests. As children lined up to get their photos with Santa, they munched on cookies and listened to Christmas music that played in the background. The photos with Santa were free, courtesy of Gold, Khourey & Turak. Bob Gray of Bob Gray’s Photography took the photos. Each child also received a gift bag from Santa.

Around 5 p.m., the OPUS Music Club arrived and began singing Christmas carols. The director of the club is Reva Icard. At 5:20 p.m., Dolly Gray, wife of Bob Gray, hit the switch and officially lit the 16 foot Christmas tree located outside on the lawn in front of the law firm. The tree was donated by the Weirzbicki Christmas Tree Farm in Lansing, Ohio, and will be on every evening from 4:30 p.m. to Midnight through December.

Special thanks to Ted & Toni Wierzbicki; Chief Noel Clarke of the Moundsville Fire Department; Jayne Kimberly for making the cookies, hot chocolate and cider; the OPUS Music Club for warming our hearts with their voices; Stanley Blankenship and the members of the Marshall County Family Resource Network for their assistance with the tree; Bob & Dolly Gray for taking the photos; and Don McCormick for making all the kids’ wishes come true.
