Thank you for your interest in the Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose program. Unlike typical programs, our visits to schools and organizations are not just lectures about alcohol, drugs and driving. You won't see photos of crash victims, nor be inundated with statistical information. Through an interactive assembly, individuals are encouraged and rewarded for their active participation during our presentation. Information is shared and learned through debate, discussion, interaction, and demonstration. The severe consequences of drinking and driving including loss of life and limb, the rigors of the criminal process, and the economic costs associated with a driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs are covered.

Participants are given the opportunity to interact with Corporal Jason A. Laing , a 12-year veteran of the West Virginia State Police, WTOV-TV 9 personalities, members of the Wheeling Nailers, and Gold, Khourey & Turak attorney, Christopher Turak, who also serves as the Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose coordinator.

The assemblies are led by Mr. Turak who begins the program by asking a series of questions from the Booze Buster Quiz, which most groups are given the opportunity to complete prior to the assembly. The person who responds with the correct answer is rewarded with a prize. Prizes may include Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose t-shirts, mouse pads, water bottles, Nailer tickets, a Nailer's team autographed hockey stick, can coolers, key chains, Nailer folders, and more.

The second segment of the program entails a mock DUI arrest. Corporal Laing explains how most DUI's are initiated and discusses the most up-to-date myths on how to sober a person. Mr. Turak and Cpl. Laing then select a couple students to participate in a mock DUI arrest. With the use of "fatal vision goggles," the students simulate being intoxicated and are taken through the rigors of a DUI arrest by Cpl. Laing including field sobriety tests.

The final portion of the program allows the students to interact with players from the Wheeling Nailers. One of the greatest obstacles our program faces when speaking with teenagers is the "it can't happen to me" attitude. Real life examples by professional athletes about their career choices and dedication, as well as the effects of drugs and alcohol that they have witnessed brings home the theme that all your dreams and nightmares "can happen to me."
