Mock Crash
-
Typically
will occur during an afternoon (approximately 45 minutes).
-
Students
create the scenario using locations, times, and activities familiar
to them.
-
Students
are assigned roles; victim, passenger, drunk driver, and so
on.
-
Wrecked
cars are obtained and positioned consistent with the scenario.
-
Fake
blood and make-up can be used to emphasize injuries.
-
Local
police and emergency personnel respond to the crash scene as
if it were a real accident.
-
The
"Jaws of Life" is used to extract injured victims
from their vehicles, when available.
-
Witness
statements are taken, field sobriety tests performed, victims
placed in body bags.
-
Question
and answer session with local police and emergency personnel
following the crash, if desired.
-
School
will receive a free copy of the crash, when available.
Mock
Trial
-
Takes
place the morning following the crash (approximately 2+ hours).
-
A
jury consisted of 12 students will be selected.
-
An
area in the school will be set-up as close to a real courtroom
setting as possible.
-
An
actual Judge will preside over the case and thoroughly explain
the proceedings
-
Actual
attorneys will prosecute and defend the case.
-
Opening
and closing statements will be read, evidence presented, and
objections heard.
-
Two
students will be chosen to act as co-counsel and have the opportunity
to examine a witness.
-
Witnesses,
including actual police officers, will be sworn in and take
the stand.
-
While
the jury deliberates, a question and answer session is held.
-
The
Judge will impose a sentence upon the drunk driver.
-
The
school will receive a free copy of the trial, when available.
