14th Annual Wo-Bo Pitching & Hitting Clinic A Success

Approximately 60 area youngsters attended the 14th Annual Wo-Bo Baseball Pitching and Hitting Clinic held at Elm Grove's Patterson Field Complex on June 12, 14, and 17th.

Conducted by West Liberty State College head baseball coach, Bo McConnaughy, and pitching coach, Steve Wojcik, participants were given in-depth instruction in every phase of hitting, pitching, and fielding. The hitting phase incorporated everything from bat selection to proper swing mechanics. Pitchers were instructed on pitching grips, windup, and stretch mechanics. Arm care and conditioning was also stressed. The fielding phase emphasized throwing mechanics, ground ball and fly ball fielding mechanics, as well as proper footwork.

Participants were divided according to age and ability level, and competed in games daily. At the end of the camp, each participant received a Wo-Bo Baseball Clinic t-shirt, compliments of the law firm of Gold, Khourey & Turak and the Booze and Cruise, You'll Lose program.

Throughout the past fourteen years, the Wo-Bo Baseball Clinic has earned the reputation of one of the most prestigious camps in the tri-state region, having provided a pitching, hitting, and fielding clinic for more than 1,100 area youngsters. The instructional series is geared toward enhancing the baseball skills of boys ages 8-18. McConnaughy and Wojcik were both All-Conference Honorees during their college days at West Liberty State College, and were drafted into the pros shortly thereafter. McConnaughy advanced to the Class AAA level in the Baltimore Orioles organization where he shined as a 3rd baseman. Wojcik was drafted by the New York Mets and rose to the Class AAA level as a pitcher. Click here to view photos from this year's camp.
