LAW FIRM DONATES LAPTOP TO TROOPS IN IRAQ
As you can imagine, communication opportunities are not readily available for many troops stationed in the Iraqi desert but the law firm of Gold, Khourey & Turak is helping one local unit overseas maintain contact with family members back home in the Ohio Valley. Last week the law firm donated a new laptop that will be shipped to Iraq and shared by the 35 members of the local 1485th Transportation Company.
"When we learned of their need, there was no question that this was something we wanted to do for our troops," offered Louis Khourey, one of the founding partners of Gold, Khourey & Turak. He added, "Right now the morale of the troops might not be the greatest, just finding out that their stay has been extended. We hope the gift of the new laptop will lift their spirits." Jaime Barcus, spokesperson for the 1485th and whose husband is serving in the unit, was overwhelmed from the generosity. "I don't know what to say," said Barcus. "For the first time I'm speechless." Barcus then looked at Mr. Khourey and said, "Thank you," and gave him a hug.
Several weeks ago family members were informed that the 1485th's mission was extended another six months, making the return date for the troops as late as April 25, 2004. The 1485th was mobilized on February 11 and deployed to Kuwait on April 25. Many family members were anticipating their loved ones to be home for the holidays. Generally, family members received email about every 10 days but now they should be able to maintain almost daily contact with their loved ones, thanks to Gold, Khourey & Turak's donation.
